在佛家有一本经典叫《心经》。它全文只有260个字,就讲了两个意思,第一个意思就是告诉我们世界是什么样的,第二个意思 是我们应该如何看待这个世界,以及看待身处在其中的我们。

我们经常说唐僧西天取经。其实《心经》并不是玄奘西天取回 来的,反而是陪伴着他一路西行,渡过无数难关的法宝。为什么这 么说呢?传说玄奘西天取经;经沙河,突然狂风大作,飞沙走石, 眼前鬼影重重,怪叫四起。当时他方寸大乱,于是立刻盘腿坐地开 始诵读心经,鬼影一听,立刻消失得无影无踪。

真的有鬼影吗?实际是心魔而已。取经路上,要面对各种极端 恶劣的地理和气候环境,可以说是挑战人的生理极限。加上又是孤 身一人,心里的那种孤独、恐惧交织在一起,不是常人所能忍受的。

每一次玄奘快要坚持不下去的时候,他就会盘腿默念心经,而心经 也一路陪他西行,渡过了无数的难关最终取经成功。

万物由心造,外面群魔乱舞的世界不过是自己的心念。当我们 平静下来,万籁俱寂。为什么《心经》能降伏其心,驱除“鬼影”, 让玄奘孤身走完五万里“长征”?这就是《心经》传达给我们的正 确方法。它告诉我们,这个世界万事万物都处在永恒的变化状态里, 但人会有太多的执念,比如我们会追求稳定的工作,会追求稳定的 关系,甚至会担心生老病死。因为有了这样的执念,而这个执念本 身与世界运行的规则又是相违背的,这个时候就产生了痛苦。

怎么样才能不苦?

“无眼耳鼻舌身意,无色声香味触法,无眼界,乃至无意识界。无无明,亦无无明尽,乃至无老死,亦无老死尽。无苦集灭道,无 智亦无得”,《心经》如是说。人的一生之所以会有那么多苦,是因 为人有六根(眼耳鼻舌身意),六根是人接受外界信号的器官,对应 六尘(色声香味触法),六尘能够产生种种感受,即贪嗔痴邪淫(五 毒),由此又滋生各种烦恼形成苦。一旦所有的苦集中起来,人就会 远离道,只有学会不执着,才能消除这些苦,接近于道。这就是世 界的本质。

当我们没有了执着的念头,放下了欲望,接受了这个世界不是 一成不变的事实,或者我们跟随着这个世界的变化而变,去拥抱那 个变化,所有的苦就消失了。《心经》的最后一段是一句咒语,一般来讲梵语里面的咒语,大部分都是音译过来的。但是它有着一层非常美与动人的意思,它说的是“揭谛揭谛,波罗揭谛,波罗僧揭谛,菩提萨婆诃”。意思是去吧去吧,让我们一起都去到彼岸,去到那无 限喜乐的智慧彼岸。

'Here is a Buddhist classic called the Heart Sutra. It contains 260 丄 characters, and it meditates upon two issues: the world we live in——and what it is——and how to view this world and ourselves——because we live in it. People often talk about the Heart Sutra in terms of a journey to the West. In fact, Xuanzang, the Monk, did not receive the Sutra after his journey to the “Western Heaven”;the Heart Sutra was a spiritual armor that helped him overcome hardships and dangers on the way to the West. On the way to the West, Xuanzang encounters extreme geographical environments that present real challenges to his physiology. In addition, he is travelling alone. The combination of loneliness and fear for a lengthy period are beyond what ordinary people can tolerate. Whenever Xuanzang finds it difficult to keep going, he sits cross-legged and recites the Heart Sutra. In this way, the Scripture accompanies him to the West. It leads him to his destination——and success.

A ll things are created by the Heart. The chaotic exterior world is nothing 丄 'but a representation. Once we calm down, all returns to quietness. How could the Heart Sutra calm the heart and dispel these “ghosts” and enable.

Xuanzang to complete his long march of thousands of miles?,The answer lies in the approach. From the Heart Sutra: “No eye, ear, nose, tongue, body or mind, no form, sound, smell, taste, touch or object of mind; no realm of the eyes, no realm of consciousness; no ignorance, nor its extinction, no old-age and death, nor their extinction. There is no suffering, no cause of suffering, no extinction, no path, no wisdom and no attainment.”

People endure a lot over the course of a lifetime because of the “six roots” (eye, ear, nose, tongue, body and mind). They are the channels through which people receive information from the external world, contained in “the six objects” (form, sound, smell, taste, touch and mind). From these, all kinds of feelings are generated——greed, anger, foolishness, bad intentions, and lust (the five evils), which are the source of these various irritations, which inevitably generate suffering.

In such a state, people stray from the right path. By relinquishing our rigidity, we can rid ourselves of suffering. Once we have defeated our obsessions and endless desires, and when we accept the fact that the world is undergoing constant change, we learn to move with those changes and embrace those changes. Then the anxiety will disappear. The last paragraph of the Heart Sutra is an incantation. Generally speaking, incantations in Sanskrit are mostly transcribed. But this incantation contains a very touching, beautiful sentiment:“Gate gate, paragate, parasamagate, bodhi svaha!”:“Go, oh let's go together to the other bank, to the bank of boundless joy and wisdom”.
